Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Growing up with four younger sisters teaches you many things. Get up early if you want a shot at the bathroom. Learn to lie about color and fashion choices convincingly. Scare the pants off of any boy that comes with ten feet of any of them. Accept the fact that you will always have to kill the spiders. Having four younger sisters also, somehow, turned him into the family secret-keeper; he’s always been the one that people talk to when they’re in need – and he helps whenever and as much as he can. Somehow, with all the things he’s been told over the years, he not only remembers them all but has never spoken about anything without permission first. A secret-keeper has a good memory and becomes adept at not saying what’s on his mind. That shows up when he’s working through a problem – he’ll be running or doing hard workouts while he thinks things through but he’s not going to share easily. What he can say tends to come out in small bits of information. His mother always said that the best way to get him to talk was to take him out to eat and just listen. Mercifully, few other people have figured that out about him. Between workouts and long-distance running, music lessons, and working in his parents’ restaurant, Lockwood learned discipline and focus from an early age. Working in a restaurant and in his later teen years, as well as sometimes joining the house band for impromptu sessions, also taught him how to get along with people. He can be charming, diplomatic, and lie convincingly with a straight face (though he very much prefers the truth). He’s a canny judge of character and is the type of person that people tend to notice. Lockwood doesn’t slip into the back of a room; he’s the guy that always finds his way to the center of whatever is going on. He loves chess and that shows up in his ability to think strategically, usually several moves ahead of his opponent. He’s not easily fooled by appearances and he’s good at figuring things out though it’ll keep him up nights sometimes doing so. |

| Strengths & Weaknesses | Strengths: > Trilingual growing up (Italian, Federation Standard, and Cajun dialect) and has since added Klingon to his repertoire. > Outgoing, personable, charismatic > Canny judge of character, good instincts, and good intuition > Protective in nature (and a number of his sisters’ would-be boyfriends can attest to that) > Competitive, thrives on challenge. There’s no ‘quit’ in him. > Strong sense of right and wrong tempered with an understanding of the political landscape and what’s possible to do … at the moment. Weaknesses: > Have to be patient to get him talking about what’s on his mind and he’s too stubborn to be pushed to speak before he’s good and ready > Really, really hates formal functions. He’s from New Orleans - Mardi Gras, baby! > Not one to forget things that have been done - the other side of the secret-keeper. He also remembers the ones who are troublesome. If you get on his bad side, it’ll be hard to get back. |

| Favorite Quotes | "The uniform demands logic, but the chair demands intuition.” "Regulations guide our hands; honor guides our souls." "Every sensor ghost out here is a civilization waiting to be met." |
|
| Hobbies & Interests | > Plays guitar and piano > Experienced practitioner in Muay Thai which specializes in devastating strikes with fists, elbows, knees, and shins, plus close-quarters clinch control. He trains regularly to keep his skills up. > Long-distance running > Plays Chess > Reads but not as often as he’d like. Non-fiction, usually in bed, so he falls asleep. |
|
| Likes/Dislikes/Personal Quirks | > Forgetful about things like getting haircuts > Loves good food, especially Cajun and Italian, and live music (blues and jazz primarily) > Loathes pineapple on pizza > Loves coffee – especially first thing in the morning > Dislikes being smirked at – note that a smirk is an unpleasant, smug, or self-satisfied smile that often shows a person is pleased with themselves, feels superior, or knows a secret > Hates those tiny things with bows, sometimes called dogs, that women his mother knew would thrust at him. > Guards his privacy. A captain has to be available to the crew and he is. No question. Any hour, day or night, but his thoughts? Those are his. He doesn’t share easily. > Really and I mean he REALLY doesn’t like spiders. |
| Personal History | Lockwood was born in 2233 in New Orleans and raised in the French Quarter. His parents owned and ran a restaurant/bar called “The Blue Note.” The house band which included family members as well as friends played on the weekends; the recipes were handed down, generation after generation, on his mother’s side. While he knows the recipes and can make some things, cooking isn’t his gift. However, spending his childhood in the restaurant meant he knew the workings of a kitchen and became adept at washing dishes though he transitioned to the front of the house as his parents thought he was old enough. Serving gave him a chance to meet people and hear a bit about their lives. Outgoing and charismatic, he didn’t have much trouble at school. He was a good student, sometimes an excellent one, as long as it didn’t involve English literature. Honestly, he’s never going to care about Mr. Darcy or Heathcliff and Catherine. In return for scaring off problematic boyfriends, his sisters helped him get through that class. By the time he was approaching the age of eighteen, he’d become a confident and capable young man, strongly athletic, with a desire to do something … anything … besides work in a restaurant. He’d listened to stories from the house band about life on the road and toyed with the idea but to him, it seemed more like a long party interspersed with bad food and a lot of nights on the road. He wanted to make a difference. He wanted … more. What that looked like was difficult to imagine. The Job Fair in his senior year turned everything around. The Starfleet recruiter spoke about what a career in Starfleet would look like, both the good and the bad, and he got interested. Not ready to commit but interested. And so, for the next few months, he spoke to patrons in the restaurant and found a few that had served or knew someone who served. He met with them, away from his parents’ watchful eyes, and asked about a million questions. By the time he was done, he knew what he wanted to do. Captain a Starship. They didn’t believe him, tried to get him to set more reasonable expectations, but Lockwood has a stubborn streak. This was his path. He just knew it. |

| Service Record | 2251 - 2255: Starfleet Academy, San Francisco, Earth. Command Track The Academy was challenging but then Lockwood thrived on challenge. He’s never been mischievous but instead, focused on the goal. His instructors indicated that he was a good student and had intuitive instincts in training scenarios that were sometimes brilliant. They also pointed out that he could be territorial about his personal space, no doubt a byproduct of growing up in a large, nosy household but thought it wouldn’t present too big a problem. During his cadet cruise, the ship was pulled in for refugee transport; he was the first to realize that not all of the refugees were what they said they were. Lockwood engineered a trap and, once the individuals, who turned out to be raiders trying to hide among the refugees, were caught, proved his theory by sensor readings. The individuals were captured without incident and Lockwood earned a commendation for original thinking. 2255 - 2260: USS Steadfast Continuing on the command track, he was rotated through departments, piecing together a good understanding of how starships worked. He served on many away teams and proved to be both clever and resourceful. He was promoted to Third Officer and while leading an away team on a planet being evaluated for settlement, the team was stranded by sudden ion storms in the upper atmosphere. The team found shelter in a nearby cave and, while there, uncovered a native lifeform missed in the original scans by the geological makeup of the cave walls. The planet was taken off the settlement list so that further evaluation could be made and Lockwood received a commendation for his efforts. 2260 - 2265: USS Faraday Assigned as Second Officer and participated in a deep space exploration mission that uncovered untouched ruins of a long dead civilization. When the Science officer triggered a trap that killed the First Officer, he stepped up and got the team to safety. Subsequently, promoted to First Officer and the Captain noted that Lockwood had serious command potential and as a result, began a personalized training program to get Lockwood to the level he needed to be. 2265 - Now: USS Veritas, Commanding Officer At the time of his promotion, he was the second-youngest to make Captain, losing out to “the other guy” by a matter of two months. Given command of the USS Veritas and, for the first two years, completed patrols of the Klingon border making a name for himself as someone who didn’t just jump to the obvious conclusion every time. |
