Personality & Traits
| General Overview | She generally isn't very expressive with her emotions. It's one of many Vulcan characteristics she adopted from her upbringing. That said, she is Human and on rare occasion is known to show some emotion. For this reason, she can seem cold or detached, but she actually enjoys spending time with others. Being raised by Vulcans, she learned that incorrectly expressing her emotions can be harmful, so she will meditate for about twelve hours every 6 months to manage her own emotions. Also because she was raised by Vulcans, she was given the Vulcan name Elonat and will respond to it as much as Anna. |
|
| Strengths & Weaknesses | Anna is to the point, which can be either helpful and convenient, or utterly irritating. She is also truthful, sometimes bluntly so. She has a vast knowledge of herbal medicine thanks to her studies of plants. She can get claustrophobic if in tight spaces for a long time. |
|
| Favorite Quotes | Being Human is not a weakness. It is merely another perspective. | |
| Hobbies & Interests | Anna can often be found running when she isn't meditating or reading. She holds several marathon medals. | |
| Likes/Dislikes/Personal Quirks | She adopts many Vulcan mannerisms; standing straight, hands resting behind the back, the regular mention of logic, and an occasional eyebrow quirk. She also regularly meditates, though she has her own practices to manage her emotions. Anna dislikes messy environments. Her own quarters are immaculate, and she keeps everything tidy. She very rarely accepts invitations to another's quarters, even for something as mundane as game night. |
| Personal History | When she was four a gang raided Anna's home on Earth, killing both of her parents in the process of stealing valuables and whatnot. Since the government couldn’t find the rest of her family they decided to put her up for adoption. She was taken in by T’Vol, her adoptive father to be on Vulcan, but because Anna was Human T’Vol spoke with his wife Sarissa and they agreed that homeschooling would be the best option, because they wouldn’t know if she was ready for the education on Vulcan. And thus began her education from home, but when she turned ten she insisted on wanting to try public education. At first Sarissa was reluctant, but eventually decided to let her try it. When Anna went to school, however, she struggled in every subject, and she was picked on for it by the other kids. The kids called her “Anauk”, which in Vulcan meant one who cries vigorously. One day, they shoved her into the supply closet and kept her there until an instructor rushed over and shooed the bullies away. The instructor brought Anna home and talked with her parents, urging them to consider keeping her at home with her private studies. Anna objected, asking for another chance, and after a dispute the instructor agreed to let her stay in public schooling for as long as she wanted. She stayed in the public school for another two months before the bullies came back, and this time they locked her in the supply closet and left, leaving her all alone for the entire night. The next morning, the instructor opened the supply closet to see a terrified young face, tears streaming down her cheeks. Anna was taken home again, and this time she agreed to continue her studies at home. The incident was what created her fear of closed spaces. For the next six years, Anna learned from home. She went to the Temple of Amonak to study with a Vulcan Master, who showed her teachings and philosophies from the Surak as well as discipline. When she was 17, she retreated into the mountains to be in isolation for three months, with the Vulcan Master as her only companion. It was there that she prepared herself for the Rite of Tal’oth, something she was not required to do but she felt obligated to, like she had something to prove. When she turned 18, she accepted the challenge of the Tal’oth and walked off into the desert to spend four months with nothing but the ritual blade. It was the four most difficult months of her life, and there were many times when she went without eating for a couple days because she couldn’t find or catch up to any game. Anna was able to survive off the sparse plants, however, thanks to the one subject she excelled in. Her knowledge of edible plants gave her an advantage. When it was unbearably hot or when she couldn’t find any food, she would find some type of shelter and put herself into a meditative trance to conserve her energy. By the end of her time in the arid climate she returned, grimy and exhausted but filled with a feeling of satisfaction. She defied the odds and proved wrong those who thought she wouldn’t survive the Tal’oth. It was then that her parents offered her a Vulcan name. Anna completed her homeschooling and studied hard, catching up and being able to graduate with her class. Like her peers, she had a chance to stand before the Vulcan High Council to hear her fate. Because of how well she did in the sciences, she was hoping to get accepted to the Vulcan Science Academy. Her dreams were squashed, however, when the Council told her that the Academy rejected her application. Anna objected, arguing that her scores were high enough to be accepted by the Academy. The Council responded by stating that there were concerns about her falling behind because she was Human, and instead recommended Starfleet. Instead of taking the advice, Anna moved to the province of Raal and set up a life for herself there, studying sea plant life in the Voroth Sea for three years. It was there that she started wearing bandanas, primarily to absorb the sweat and keep her hair back, but it grew on her until it became a part of her identity. During the time at the research facility, she'd find herself spending time with the medical staff and found their discussions enlightening. She began to read their publications and eventually started training with them in her spare time. Eventually, she thought back on the recommendation that the Council had suggested, and did her research on Starfleet. It did mean being around other Humans. Finding it worthy of giving a chance, she sent in an application and was accepted a couple months later. Anna started at the Academy when she was 26, and to her surprise found that the courses were not as difficult as she thought they would be, and ended up taking classes that were normally taken by the classes ahead of her. She excelled in the sciences, taking every course they had to offer, in addition to a couple other classes. The medical training she received at the research facility had grown on her, and she took medical classes as well. After about a year of both, she decided to continue with the medical track. Her survival courses were easy for her after taking the Tal’oth on Vulcan, but her self defense classes proved challenging. During her years at the Academy, she met some friends who she had fun with and went out with often. She easily met the requirements to graduate, then went off to the Starfleet Medical Academy for another four years to get her MD. After a while, she discovered that gradually her emotions would start surfacing and making her do rash things that got her in trouble, so she consulted the Vulcan Master who had taught her on Vulcan. He taught her a method of meditation that she could use to ‘reset’ her emotions and put them under control, which involved a long and deep trance. Finding that she got into less trouble after the session, she ended up making the meditation a routine. After the conversation with the Master, Anna took a deep breath and dove into her career in space. |
